Inner Healing Therapy aims to be transparent with how your information is collected and used. Your privacy is important to us and this Privacy Policy will describe how your personal information is collected, used and shared when you visit our website and engage in treatment with us .  

General Data Privacy Regulation (GDPR)

In 2018 a new law came into force with regards to how organisations have to protect your ‘data’ (personal details and records).  The new law is known as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Your personal data is processed in line with GDPR legislation 2016/679. Full details of this can be found here



How is information collected?

Information is collected in the following ways:


  • Website


When you visit this website, cookies are used to store non personal data about you (for example, your geographical location and IP address). Cookies are used to facilitate and improve your experience of this site and to allow us to improve our products and services. By continuing to use our website, it is assumed you are consenting to this. 


By using our website, you may also receive third party cookies on your device. 

Third party cookies are those placed by websites, services, and/or parties other than Inner Healing Therapy. Third party Cookies are used for advertising services and analytics. These cookies are not integral to the functioning of this website and your use and experience of this website will not be impaired by refusing consent to them.

If you have enquired about our services via email, it cannot be guaranteed that any content within these emails are completely secure. Password protecting emails can be an option and can be discussed if required. 


  • Sessions


Throughout the course of therapy, including the initial introductory call, assessment and treatment sessions, information about you will be recorded. This includes but is not restricted to:


➢ Your name.

➢ Your contact details including a postal address, telephone number(s) and electronic contact such as email address.

➢ Your GP details.

➢ Your next of kin details..

➢ A summary of the therapy session content.


Special Category Data (Sensitive Data)


Given the nature of healthcare related data, some of the information I may collect from you will be classified as sensitive. These include the following:


Ethnic background

Sexual orientation

Sexual behaviour and history

Relationship history

Religion

Physical and mental health history (including history of alcohol consumption, drug use and any medication previously prescribed)

Current physical and mental health symptoms including suicide risk, alcohol and drug use, and any medication you are currently taking

Offences and alleged offences

Questionnaire scores (questionnaires that assess the severity of your symptoms)


This information is collected to ensure the service you receive is tailored to your needs and and the treatment is adequate. It may also be used for monitoring and evaluation purposes. 

How long is data stored for?

In line with guidance, your data is stored and retained for seven years. This is primarily for two reasons:


  • Should you wish to return for further therapy in the future
  • If you wish to raise a complaint, in line with the Limitation Act (1980), you have six years to share concerns of breach of contract, breach of trust or a claim in relation to negligence.


Who do we share information with?

Whist we will always endeavour to maintain confidentiality, there are certain exceptions. If we have reason to believe you or anyone else is at risk of harm, we are bound by our professional obligation to break confidentiality and share information with other services, such as GP, Social Services or the Police. You will be informed if we intend to break confidentiality.


As per the BABCP Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics, we must take appropriate action to protect the rights of children and vulnerable adults if we believe they are at risk, including following national and local policies.

We reserve the right to update this policy as appropriate and when needed. Please refer back here for any changes to the policy to keep up to date.
